H&M Closes All Of Their Stores In South Africa After Protest

Yesterday South African protesters took matters into their own hands after the Swedish brand, H&M, featured an ad with young black boy posing in a sweatshirt that read, “Coolest Monkey In The Jungle.”

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to six store locations and trashed them to protest the racist ad. Due to the destruction of the Stores, H&M has temporarily closed all of their stores in South Africa, according to CNN. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
H&M released a statement, “Out of concern for the safety of our employees and customers we have temporarily closed all stores in the area. None of our staff or customers have been injured. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will open the stores as soon as the situation is safe again. We strongly believe that racism and bias in any shape or form, deliberate or accidental, are simply unacceptable. We stress that our wonderful store staff had nothing to do with our poorly judged product and image.”
